Junior Service League of Beaufort was one of the first grants received in May 2016 to support the Healthy Food Program launched by Second Helpings. Thanks to the ongoing efforts of our many food donors, Second Helpings works hard to provide healthy choices to over 60 agencies. The demand for fresh produce and meats far exceeds what is donated at some times of the year.
The Healthy Food Initiative Program was created to provide healthy food in the form of protein, fruits and vegetables to over 60 agencies that hand out food to needy families and seniors. These agencies are located on Hilton Head Island, in Bluffton and Beaufort, as well as Hampton and Jasper counties.
This grant enabled agencies located in Beaufort to receive fresh produce during May 2017, provided by two local farm businesses. We applaud both Dempsey Farms and Pinckney Farms for providing twice the produce that was paid for through this grant. Both of these businesses continue to donate produce in a continuing effort to show their community support.
Thank you Junior Service League of Beaufort members for helping us meet the needs and better the health of the people who rely on these local agencies for food to feed their families.
