Hilton Head Firefighters’ Association Awards Grant in support of K-12 Food Rescue Program

Children are learning about food value, food safety, and food rescue. Currently, two schools in Beaufort County are participating in this program. Our goal is to enroll all the elementary schools in the K-12 Food Rescue Program. The children are the “food warriors” who recover the uneaten food off school lunch trays. This is not a food donation program but instead a food rescue program. The food is then picked up by Second Helpings’ volunteers and given to after-school programs and elderly care programs. This grant will make it possible to add another school to the program. Thank you Hilton Head Firefighters Association for believing in this program. You are helping the environment as well as our local neighbors. You demonstrate the true meaning of GIVING WHERE YOU LIVE.
