Beaufort resident Madeline Helser-Howard joins Second Helpings as the part-time coordinator for Beaufort and the Sea Islands. In this role, Helser-Howard will work with food donors, soup kitchens/food pantries/churches and volunteers to rescue and distribute food to help feed the hungry in this area.
The new coordinator is experienced in nonprofit organizations, including with Friends of Hunting Island State Park, Beaufort County Library and, most recently, with Neighborhood Outreach Connection. She has a master’s of science in library and information science and was Librarian of the Year for Beaufort County in 2019. She is also an SC Master Naturalist.
On her new role, Helser-Howard commented, “I am excited to continue my career in community advocacy with Second Helpings. Access to food should be a right, not a privilege, and money should never determine if a person can eat or not. Second Helpings plays a vital role in our community towards achieving broader food access for all, and I feel honored to be a part of that mission.”
