Veteran Second Helpings Volunteer Dave Eppinger Joins Board of Directors

A five-year volunteer who is passionate about eradicating hunger was recently named to the Board of Directors of Second Helpings. Dave Eppinger of Sea Pines on Hilton Head Island is a retired business executive with experience in the engineering and construction industries and transportation infrastructure. Eppinger is a truck volunteer and day captain, and a member of Second Helpings’ Events and Marketing Committee.

Earlier in 2022, Eppinger was awarded the honor of Hilton Head Volunteer of the Year, having been nominated by several of his fellow volunteers.

Eppinger was senior vice president for global business development and strategy with Fluor Corporation, a Fortune 500 company providing professional and technical solutions to deliver engineering, procurement and construction projects to clients around the world. His career assignments included sales leadership, marketing, strategic planning, project development, application engineering, and account management. He retired in 2016 when he and his wife moved to Hilton Head Island.

The newest board member of Second Helpings coordinates volunteers and pick-ups/drop-offs for the Hilton Head Island Monday crew. In addition to volunteering with Second Helpings, Eppinger is coordinator for the Sea Pines Men’s Club Kayak Group, and volunteers with the Outside Foundation working with the Kids in Kayaks program.

“My operations background with Second Helpings enables me to bring insight into how we execute our mission to fight hunger. I am knowledgeable of the needs of our food donors and recipient agencies and how to work effectively with them. I also believe that my prior corporate experience in marketing and strategic planning will be an asset to the Second Helpings board,” said Eppinger.

Executive Director Marcus Tanner welcomed Eppinger to the Board. “Dave is recognized as a leader in our food rescue and distribution operations, and he provides valuable logistics and marketing insights. I’m looking forward to working with Dave as a board member who will help guide our organization as we continue to strengthen food rescue and distribution and build community awareness.”
