On Saturday, November 19, 86 families received more than enough food for Thanksgiving dinner in a free food distribution held at the Church of the Palms in Okatie. Each family received a turkey, oranges, apples, cabbages, white potatoes and sweet potatoes, breads, desserts, and other groceries.
The event was sponsored by Church of the Palms, in partnership with the Healing Waters Mission and Wellness Center. Healing Waters Pastor Brenda Singleton, her husband, Elder Jeff Singleton, and their team of volunteers distribute food at multiple sites in Beaufort and Jasper counties. They expanded to Okatie after learning from Second Helpings that there is no food pantry to serve the need in this area.
Thank you to the Singletons, Church of the Palms Pastor Pete Berntson, Missions Leader Bill Unger, and the many volunteers from both organizations who joined forces to feed their neighbors. We hope this is the first of many food distributions in Okatie!
