Board Member Mike Chambers Is “Escaping the Cape” to Support Second Helpings

Second Helpings board member and volunteer Mike Chambers needs our help. He’s competing in the “Escape The Cape Aqua Bike” on June 11 in Cape May, NJ. As a part of the event, Mike is raising money for Second Helpings to support food rescue in the Lowcountry.

Mike will jump off the Cape May-Lewes Ferry for a one-mile swim and 23 miles on a bike. Let’s make Mike’s journey even more meaningful by donating to Second Helpings.

Every donation helps!  One in eight South Carolinians do not have access to sufficient nutritious food to meet their basic needs.

$50 enables Second Helpings to provide enough food for 278 meals

$100 enables Second Helpings to provide enough food for 556 meals

Why Second Helpings: Mike has been a Second Helpings volunteer for more than seven years and a board member for more than two years. Second Helpings is a nonprofit food rescue and distribution network striving to eliminate hunger and food waste in the South Carolina Lowcountry. We collect and distribute food that would have otherwise ended up in landfills, and provide it, free of charge, to more than 50 food pantries, soup kitchens, and family and senior programs in three counties. In 2022, Second Helpings volunteers rescued and distributed 3.2 million pounds of food.
