Ensuring Every Pound of Food Goes to Where It’s Needed Most

With so much need, demand for food is frequently greater than our supply.  So we have been focused on ensuring that every pound of precious food goes to where it’s needed most, as efficiently as possible.  Here’s what we’ve been doing:

  • We have developed reporting and analysis to better understand how many households and persons each agency serves.  This enables us to make better decisions about where we distribute the three million pounds of food we rescue each year.

  • We’ve partnered with the Lowcountry Food Bank to obtain refrigeration capacity to double the ability of the Beaufort Salvation Army to serve more of the 1,400 food-insecure people that live nearby.

  • We have been making changes to our routes and drop-offs all year to take more food where it is needed most. The final phase of these changes will happen later this year.
