Here’s How We’ve Been Expanding Our Outreach

We have made significant progress over the years in building our agency partner network.  But we are collectively reaching a little more than half of the food-insecure.  Here’s how we have been expanding our outreach:

  • We’ve used Feeding America’s US Census-based estimates to identify the pockets of food insecurity, and assess agency partner coverage and outreach.  Through July, we added four new agencies in Beaufort (including two on Lady’s Island) and on the south end of Hilton Head Island to reach underserved communities.  We expect to add another three within the next month.

  • We’ve worked with Hilton Head’s South End agencies to attract Spanish-speaking clients.  We are also collaborating with St. Andrew by-the-Sea UMC to put on a rescued food cooking demonstration as part of Hilton Head’s 360/40 celebration to build community awareness.

  • In September, we are holding a series of Agency Conferences, the first since before the COVID-19 pandemic.  These meetings will encourage collaboration among the agencies, and we plan to provide food insecurity data to them for the first time to encourage their own community outreach.
