What We Do & How We Do It

Second Helpings’ mission is to rescue food that would have been discarded by grocery and other stores and redistribute it to agencies serving the disadvantaged, challenged and needy in the SC Lowcountry. More than 80% of the food distributed at most local agencies come off the Second Helpings trucks.

Our volunteers rescue and redistribute food to pantries, churches and agencies serving the hungry.  Second Helpings is not a food pantry; we are a conduit for the food to get from Food Donors to the people in need.  The food is collected and distributed the same day.  We have eight refrigerated trucks that go out seven days a week distributing food throughout Beaufort, Jasper and Hampton counties.   Last year we redistributed 3.2 million pounds of food (2.6 million equivalent meals!) to our Agency Partners, who provided it to children, families, senior citizens and the working poor.

Besides being charitable, we are “green”!   We save money and the environment by keeping the food out of the landfills.
