With all the attention going to COVID-19, Second Helpings Healthy Food Initiative got a shot in the arm with a recent grant award from the Long Cove Community Charitable Fund. These funds will help our volunteers supplement the volume of healthy fresh produce being dropped off at our agencies in the local communities of Hilton Head and Greater Bluffton in the next couple of months.
Long Cove Community Charitable Fund through the Community Foundation of the Lowcountry has been a long-time supporter of Second Helpings mission to rescue food and prevent food waste. We work closely with farmers who are willing to donate fresh produce for this program and thus be considered for the purchasing of additional fresh produce. Our goal is to receive twice as much donated produce to purchased produce.
Last year, this grant program funded the development and launch of Second Helpings’ new website and prior to that the purchase of a new refrigerated truck. We thank each member of this community for their support.
