Eighty-five volunteers and guests joined us at the Hilton Head Volunteer Appreciation Event on Tuesday, October 1. We enjoyed beautiful weather, good food, and the Forrest Fire restaurant all to ourselves!
Congratulations to Hilton Head Truck Volunteer of the Year Bob Zucker. “Talk about above and beyond! Bob’s crew spent an entire day (the first day we were operating after tropical storm Debby) catching up on the rescue routes. They then rescued all of the remaining inventory from Whole Foods, which had closed earlier that week. As a result of Bob and his crew’s diligence, food that had been destined for a Whole Foods store in another area was donated for rescue! Bob has been an important part of Second Helpings for 20 years and 521 trips!”
Also nominated for this award were Ken Benkeser, Deb and Tab Fischbach, Craig Loomis, Pat Murphy, and Bob Poveromo.
We were also very pleased to recognize 15 volunteers who received silver and gold forks and spoons to honor the number of food rescue trips they have made. They were:
Silver Spoon (at least 50 trips): David DesJardins, Craig Dreyer, Harry Silletti, Kent Smith, and Tori Stigleman.
Gold Spoon (at least 100 trips): Barry Burgoyne, Steve Gottfried, Larry Holdren, David McBride, Pete McGlade, Rob Skresvig, Harry Vosganian, and Ted Witman.
Silver Fork (at least 150 trips): Judy Heck.
Gold Fork (at least 200 trips): Bob Hoffman.
In addition, seven volunteers who have already completed more than 200 trips were presented with a new pin, the Second Helpings Plate. They are: Bob Cosgrove, Alan George, Bob Huisman, Bob Poveromo, Graham Silcox, Rich Vallero, and Bob Zucker. Their photos will soon be displayed on a new Food Rescue Heroes wall in the office.
