Ninety Beaufort volunteers came to our Volunteer Appreciation Event on October 30 at Shellring Ale House to enjoy food and drink and celebrate another year of service to our neighbors in need.
John Evans was honored as Beaufort’s Truck Volunteer of the Year. “John has put a lot of time and effort into volunteering on the trucks in Beaufort. He has also been very helpful volunteering at the Port Royal Farmers Market with setting up, delivery of produce to UMC, talking with potential volunteers and other activities related to this effort. His insight and advice is always welcomed as he has had a lot of experience volunteering with other organizations in other locations.”
Also nominated for Volunteer of the Year were Bruce Doneff, Tom Hlaban, and John Horne.
We were also very pleased to recognize nine volunteers who received silver and gold fork and spoon pins to honor the number of food rescue trips they have made. They were:
Silver Spoon (at least 50 trips): Brad Beck, Tony Maurer, Jim Pfeffer and Doc Schmidtke.
Gold Spoon (at least 100 trips): Tom Hlaban, Jeff Kravis and Diane Naus.
Silver Fork (at least 150 trips): Dave Moore and David Naus.
In addition, five volunteers who have already completed more than 200 trips were presented with a new pin, the Second Helpings Plate. They are: Denny Burnette, David Manning, Jack McGill, Paul Monroe and Dwayne Smalley. Their photos will be displayed on a new Food Rescue Heroes wall in the office.
